Main Street Theatre Company was originally founded in 1976 as the ‘Kibworth Community Centre Drama Group’ and was based at the community centre in Kibworth Beauchamp, Leicestershire. Our first production was a play called "Best Laid Schemes" and was performed in March/April of 1977. Some of the original members are still active today. We got involved in the local Carnival several times whilst based at Kibworth, provided entertainment for groups such as Young Wives and Church Festivals, recorded talking books for the blind and helped raise funds for several local charities. Show highlights over the years included "Oh What a Lovely War" (1978), "Cinderella" (1979), "The Pajama Game" (1980), "Sweeny Todd" (1983), "Oliver!" (1990) and "Dracula Spectacular" (1991). Our final production at Kibworth was "When We Are Married" in 1993. In 1993 the group was forced to move from Kibworth due to the closure and redevelopment of the drama studio. A new home was found at the village hall on Main Street in Great Glen and the group became the ‘Main Street Theatre Company’ (MSTC) where we have been ever since. The opening production was the musical "Oklahoma!". Since then, as well as performing our regular shows, we have continued to be involved in other local events such as charity carol singings and helped raise money for the village hall by producing an Old Tyme Music Hall show. If you take a look at our previous shows page you will see the group has continued to perform a wide variety of shows that will appeal to both our audience and our members. We welcome anyone interested in any aspect of the theatre, i.e. acting, directing, sound, lighting, set design and backstage work as well as front of house work and publicity. We believe that we have established the group as one of the most ‘professional’ amateur dramatic groups in the local Harborough District. It’s not all work though, we still find time to get together every now and then for a good knees up as you will see on the site.
