This enchanting fairy tale has been adapted by Simon Nye and was originally produced by ITV. Jack is a young lad living with his widowed mother and struggling in hard times. Jack is in love with the Barons daughter, Jill, and wishes to marry her. In desperation for money Jack is sent by his mother to sell their only cow, Pat, at the market, but along the way he is met by a mysterious crone who offers him supposedly "magic" beans in exchange for the cow. Jack takes the beans but when he arrives home with no money, only a hand full of beans, his angry mother throws them out of the window and send Jack to bed without supper for his foolishness. But overnight the beans grow and the following morning Jack is persuaded to climb the Beanstalk with the promise of fame & fortune. We follow Jack as he pursues his dream of marrying Jill. Along the way he encounters Giants and Fairy’s and annoying teenagers and battles to live happily ever after with a hill, and a pail, and of course the love of his life, Jill. |
